Prestwich Golf Course is a parkland course set over a hilly terrain, bordering Kersal Moor which was the site of the original Old Manchester Golf Club, the second golf club constructed in England in 1818.
It is situated just over 3 miles from Manchester City Centre and close to the M60 radial motorway junctions.
Although short by modern standards it has always provided a challenge for golfers of all levels and has the bonus of being capable of being played in around 3¼ hours. The course is always in excellent condition and the greens and tees are playable throughout the year. We remain open whilst others around us have to close for adverse weather conditions.
This year is an exciting time for Prestwich Golf Club with £800,000 worth of investment to the course and facilities which will further enhance this idyllic little course and in response to visitor comments is being completely remodelled, eliminating blind shots and minimising cross overs.
The new course, designed by international Golf Architects David Thomas Ltd. is being extended onto the moorland and will create five new holes which will replace the less popular ones and also provide a new practice putting green. Greasleys, the contractor charged with delivering the transformation have only been on site since October but the progress and results are stunning. See our greenkeepers facebook page for images and progress reports.
In the meantime, whilst the remodelling takes place the course is reduced to nine holes which offers the choice of nine or eighteen hole options and has generated the fastest playing course in the area.
The greens at Prestwich are renowned for their condition and remain open throughout the year.
